Obituary of Elisabeth Spruell Sharkey

Elisabeth “Lisa” Spruell Sharkey passed away on Thursday, June 25th, 2020, in Roanoke, Virginia after a short illness. Born November 2nd, 1957, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, to the late Jerry and Betty Spruell of Roanoke. She is survived by her husband, Stephen Sharkey of Roanoke, brother Edward Spruell of Roanoke, and sister Julie Spruell Jeffery of San Diego, California. She spent her childhood years moving around the South as the family followed her father’s career in non-profit management. The family settled in Roanoke in 1970. She attended college at Mary Washington and East Carolina universities, graduating with a degree in business. Her most memorable role was as a children’s librarian at the county library system. She loved books and music and classic films from the 1950s. She had a flare for decorating, nesting, and all things fashion. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery Vinton, Virginia. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home Chapel. (540)366-0707.

Lisa was a true friend.. I remember sharing  our hopes and dreams at the pool while eating pimento cheese sandwiches supplied by her Mom. She was beautiful inside and out, wanting to bring joy others by sharing her positive attitude . We lost contact after college--I hope she had the happiness she so willingly brought to others
